Femi Fani-Kayode, Nigeria's ambassador designate to South Africa, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is not an ordinary human being. In a lengthy post on X on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Fani-Kayode revealed what he calls the 'secret' of Tinubu's success: his unique approach to rewarding supporters.
Fani-Kayode Praises Tinubu's Leadership Style
Fani-Kayode stated that unlike other leaders, Tinubu rewards and builds up his loyalists rather than denigrating or destroying them. He described Tinubu as an 'akanda eniyan' in Yoruba mythology, meaning a special one endowed with extraordinary grace and spiritual powers.
The former aviation minister also predicted electoral defeat for opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in the 2027 elections. He called their political alliance a 'marriage of opportunism and convenience' that was doomed from the start.
Criticism of Atiku and Obi
Fani-Kayode criticized both Atiku and Obi for frequently changing political parties, likening them to the character Gollum from 'Lord of the Rings.' He argued that their obsession with power makes them unfit to lead Nigeria.
He contrasted Tinubu's political journey, noting that Tinubu founded and built his parties over decades, while Atiku and Obi merely joined or hijacked existing platforms. Fani-Kayode emphasized that Tinubu's patience, discipline, and loyalty earned him the presidency.
Fani-Kayode also warned that Obi's new party, the NDC, may face internal conflicts, especially with Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who he believes would never accept being Obi's running mate.
In conclusion, Fani-Kayode urged both Atiku and Obi to reconcile with a life outside power, asserting they will never achieve the presidency again.
