Supporters of Oyo State governorship aspirant Dr Debo Akande have dismissed social media reports claiming that Bimbo Adekanmbi has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election. They asserted that the party has not officially announced any candidate and expressed strong confidence that Akande is leading in ongoing consensus talks.
“The story that Fijabi and Adekanmbi were the final two is a fabrication,” the supporters stated, urging the public to disregard unverified information.
Former Oyo State Speaker and ex-Senator Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu provided details from a closed-door consultation among key PDP stakeholders. According to her, Akande secured strong backing during deliberations. “Akande won most of the votes in the initial inner caucus on day one, and more votes when the meeting was expanded to include more stakeholders,” she revealed.
Sunmonu added that most influential party leaders view Akande as possessing the competence, loyalty, and experience needed to lead the PDP to victory in 2027. “The only person who has contributed and sacrificed so much for this government is Dr. Debo Akande,” she asserted.
However, the party has yet to announce any candidate for the governorship seat or disclose the selection method. The consensus process remains ongoing, with stakeholders continuing consultations to determine the strongest contender.
