Donald Trump has stated that the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner underscores the necessity of a secure ballroom, while also criticizing a lawsuit that challenges the construction of such a facility.
On Saturday night, April 25, the US President and Vice President were evacuated from the venue after gunfire erupted during the annual dinner. In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump claimed the attack would not have occurred if the Military Top Secret Ballroom, currently under construction at the White House, had been completed.
Trump wrote: "What happened last night is exactly the reason our great Military, Secret Service, Law Enforcement and, for different reasons, every President for the last 150 years, have been demanding that a large, safe, and secure Ballroom be built on the grounds of the White House. This event would never have happened with the Military Top Secret Ballroom currently under construction at the White House. It cannot be built fast enough."
He emphasized the ballroom's advanced security features, noting that it has no rooms above it where unsecured individuals could gain access, and is located within the perimeter of the White House, described as the most secure building in the world.
Trump also lambasted a lawsuit against the ballroom's construction, calling it "ridiculous" and brought by a woman walking her dog who has no standing. He demanded the lawsuit be dropped immediately, asserting that nothing should interfere with the construction, which he claimed is on budget and ahead of schedule.
