Accountant Arrested for Slitting Wife's Throat After Valentine's Day, Fakes Robbery Story

A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged in India, where a 27-year-old bank employee was found dead with her throat slit, leading to the arrest of her husband, a chartered accountant, who initially tried to pass it off as a robbery. The incident, which occurred shortly after Valentine's Day, has sent shockwaves through the community and raised serious concerns about marital disputes and crime investigation.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The victim, identified as Mahak, worked at HDFC Bank in Gurgaon, India. She was married to Anshul Dhawan, a chartered accountant residing in Hisar's Sector 14, in an arranged marriage on September 25, 2025. The couple had been married for barely five months when the tragedy struck. On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2026, they visited Hisar and stayed with family, but the situation took a dark turn the following evening.

Around 7 pm on February 15, the couple left Mahak's parental home in Hansi for Gurugram. Approximately four hours later, Anshul contacted the police, claiming that unidentified attackers had intercepted their car near Pahsaur village in the Badli area of Jhajjar district. He alleged that these attackers killed his wife and fled the scene. Police responded promptly and found Mahak's body lying outside the car on a dirt track about 100 meters off the Jhajjar-Badli road, with her throat brutally slit.

Investigation Unravels the Truth

However, Anshul's account quickly began to crumble under police scrutiny. During questioning, he failed to provide consistent descriptions of the alleged attackers and repeatedly changed his statement, raising red flags for investigators. Through sustained interrogation and a detailed crime scene reconstruction, Anshul eventually confessed to the murder.

Police revealed that the couple had been embroiled in frequent arguments over Anshul's suspicions about Mahak's character. These disputes escalated dramatically during their drive, leading him to first strangle her and then slit her throat with a pair of scissors. Authorities noted that he allegedly wore gloves during the act to avoid leaving forensic evidence, demonstrating a premeditated attempt to conceal the crime. After the murder, he staged the scene to make it appear as a robbery, further complicating the initial investigation.

Family Suspicions and Additional Tragic Details

Mahak's father, Krishna Kathuria, had expressed suspicion against his son-in-law from the very beginning, highlighting family tensions that may have contributed to the case. In a heartbreaking revelation, family members disclosed that Mahak was pregnant at the time of her death, adding another layer of tragedy to the already horrific event. This detail has intensified public outrage and calls for justice in the matter.

Police have now arrested Anshul Dhawan and are proceeding with further investigation to gather all evidence and ensure a thorough legal process. The case underscores the severe consequences of unresolved marital conflicts and the importance of rigorous police work in uncovering the truth behind such heinous crimes.
