Kebbi Police Hunt Husband After Gunshot Kills Wife

The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a man following a fatal gun incident that claimed the life of his wife in Bagudo Local Government Area. The police have also commenced an investigation into the tragedy.

Incident Details

Police sources revealed that the incident occurred on June 9 in Geza Village. The victim, Sa'ima Sani, aged 25, sustained gunshot injuries from a locally made Dane gun. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was asked by her husband, Auwalu Hassan, to retrieve the loaded firearm, which had been kept in a room within their residence.

“The woman reportedly picked up the Dane gun to take it to her husband at the rear of the house. In the process, the firearm discharged and she sustained gunshot wounds to the stomach and left hand,” the source said.

Police Response

The incident was reported to the police, prompting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bagudo to mobilise officers to the scene. The victim was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Bagudo, for emergency medical treatment. However, she later died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

Police authorities said the body was photographed and subjected to necessary procedures before being released to family members for burial. The authorities further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the deceased's husband, who reportedly left the area following the incident.

According to the police, investigations have commenced to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy and determine whether any criminal negligence was involved. They urged members of the public to observe strict safety measures in the handling and storage of firearms and to ensure that weapons are kept securely to prevent avoidable accidents.
