Mother Dies, Daughter Survives Third Mainland Bridge Crash

A tragic road accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday resulted in the death of a woman, while her 30-year-old daughter miraculously survived. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the crash occurred at the Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis, involving a head-on collision between two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM.

Swift Response by Authorities

According to LASTMA, its officials responded promptly after receiving a distress call. They secured the scene and managed traffic flow to prevent further incidents. Officers from the Oworonsoki Police Division were also deployed to document the accident and initiate investigations.

Victim Identified

The deceased, identified as a mother traveling in one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her daughter, who was in the same vehicle, survived the crash. Authorities reported that one of the drivers fled the scene, while the other was apprehended by LASTMA officials and handed over to the police.

The body of the victim has been evacuated, and normal traffic flow has since been restored in the area. LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, warned motorists against reckless driving, particularly speeding, and urged strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable tragedies.
