Eddie Hearn, the head of Matchroom Boxing, has disclosed a confidential clause in the contract for the Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua fight, confirming that the bout will take place in the United Kingdom and will not be promoted by Dana White's Zuffa Boxing. This revelation counters growing speculation that the all-British heavyweight clash might be held in the United States.
Fury emerged from retirement in April, securing a points victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov in front of over 60,000 spectators at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Joshua watching from ringside. Shortly after, both fighters reportedly agreed to terms for a long-awaited showdown expected in November. However, Joshua must first defeat Kristian Prenga on July 25, while Fury is also anticipated to have another bout before their meeting.
Concerns arose that the mega-fight could move to the US after reports indicated consideration of SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles and MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas as potential venues. Adding to the speculation, UFC president Dana White recently claimed that Hearn had no role in negotiating the fight contract. 'Call Eddie right now and ask him where the fight is,' White said during a press conference. 'Call Eddie and ask who negotiated the contract for the fight. It wasn't him.'
Hearn retaliated, insisting White has no involvement in promoting the fight. 'His boxing business is so dead that he's trying to find a way to be relevant and part of the biggest fight in boxing, which is Joshua vs Fury,' Hearn told ESPN. 'I negotiated the fight contract for three months with SELA and Turki Alalshikh. Dana White has no clue what is in that contract.'
Hearn emphasized two key points: 'No. 1, Dana White, TKO and Zuffa can have no promotional involvement in that show at all. He also doesn't know about the other clause in the contract that states Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury must take place in the UK.'
Although no official date or venue has been confirmed, Wembley Stadium in London is widely expected to host the heavyweight showdown. Hearn also revealed the bout is likely to occur in November. Reports suggest the first fight could be broadcast live on Netflix, while a potential rematch might stream on DAZN.
White has not yet responded publicly to Hearn's latest remarks. The relationship between the two promoters has deteriorated sharply in recent months following White's entry into boxing through Zuffa Boxing. Their feud escalated to the point where both discussed fighting each other, though White was later accused of backing away.
Several fighters have weighed in on the rivalry, including Fury, who openly backed White and joked about officiating a fight between the pair. 'All this beef going on with Eddie Hearn and Dana White. I am backing Dana all the way,' Fury said in a video on his Instagram Story. 'Dana to knock his face right in. The posh git. And if you want, I will be the referee of the fight. GK all day, every day. Let's go. Boom!'
