Mahmud, the son of Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria's national security adviser (NSA), has made a peculiar promise regarding Arsenal's potential double triumph this season. He declared that if the Gunners secure both the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and the English Premier League (EPL) titles in the 2025/2026 campaign, he will refrain from wearing a shirt for two weeks.
Arsenal's Historic Champions League Final Berth
On Tuesday night, April 5, Bukayo Saka propelled Arsenal to their first Champions League final in two decades. His first-half goal secured a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in north London, ensuring a 2-1 aggregate win. The achievement sparked celebrations among fans worldwide, including in Nigeria.
Mahmud's Social Media Vow
Reacting to the semifinal win on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Mahmud, founder of Primal Sporting Club, hinted at an unconventional celebration. He wrote: "If Arsenal win the UEFA Champions League and Premier League .. I will not wear a shirt for 2 weeks." The post quickly gained traction among football enthusiasts.
Arsenal currently lead the EPL table, five points clear of Manchester City, though they have played one more game. The club will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the UCL final on May 30 in Budapest, aiming to win Europe's top competition for the first time. Their only previous final appearance in 2006 ended in defeat to Barcelona.
