NFF's Marketing Partner Warns Telecom Firm Over Super Eagles Ambush Marketing
NFF, Pamodzi warn firm over Super Eagles ambush marketing

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and its official marketing partner have taken a firm stance against what they describe as unethical ambush marketing targeting the Super Eagles.

Exclusive Rights Under Threat

Pamodzi Sports Marketing Company, the NFF's marketing partner, has publicly warned an unnamed telecommunications company to immediately cease activities that infringe on the exclusive sponsorship rights held by MTN Nigeria. Mike Itemuagbor, Managing Director of Pamodzi, reaffirmed that MTN Nigeria is the sole official communications partner and sponsor of the NFF and all national teams, a status secured through a three-year renewable contract signed in 2023.

This comprehensive deal grants MTN exclusive rights to use the teams, including the Super Eagles, for promotions, advertising, marketing, and other commercial ventures. It also covers the valuable image rights of the players.

Unlawful Activities at AFCON 2025

Itemuagbor expressed the federation's displeasure, stating that one telecom outfit has been attempting to benefit from the Super Eagles' popularity without investing in an official sponsorship. He accused the firm of persistently linking its products and services to the team.

The issue came to a head during the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) in Morocco. Pamodzi alleges that the firm's activities around the tournament were a deliberate attempt to raise its brand awareness by associating with the Super Eagles' impressive performance, which captivated the nation. The marketing company labeled these actions as both unethical and unlawful.

A Stern Warning and Legal Implications

"This is unlawful, and Pamodzi, as the agency responsible for implementing the rights between MTN Nigeria and the NFF, will not watch the abuse of the rights MTN Nigeria has paid for," Itemuagbor stated emphatically.

He stressed the exclusivity of the arrangement, clarifying that the NFF has not and will not grant similar rights concerning its products and services to any other company. The promotional, advertising, and marketing rights given to MTN Nigeria are strictly limited to the product categories specified in their contract.

This warning serves as a clear message to all corporate entities: the NFF and its partners are prepared to defend their commercial agreements and the significant investment made by their official sponsor, MTN Nigeria.
