Activist Aisha Yesufu has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. She made the announcement on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, via her verified Facebook page.
Yesufu's Move to NDC
Yesufu, a known ally of presidential hopeful Peter Obi, stated that her decision to leave the ADC was driven by a deeper understanding of the nation's political dynamics. She expressed her commitment to following the leadership of Peter Obi, whom she described as the embodiment of hope and aspiration for a better Nigeria.
In her Facebook post, Yesufu wrote: "The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works."
Entering the FCT Senate Race
Yesufu also disclosed her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 elections. She emphasized that her decision to join the NDC is not just as a member but as a candidate for the position.
She added: "When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour the promise I am joining the NDC. This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat."
Clean Transition from ADC
Yesufu assured that she has fulfilled all her obligations to the ADC, ensuring a smooth and clean transition. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with dedicated individuals who shared the goal of a better country.
"I have tidied up all my obligations to the ADC, ensuring a clean transition. I was fortunate to work with great and amazing people whose goal was a better country. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary at various levels. The experience has been invaluable, and I thank everyone for their support and cooperation," she said.
This development marks a significant shift in Nigeria's political landscape as the 2027 elections approach, with Yesufu aligning herself with Peter Obi's political movement.
