Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State is currently holding a crucial closed-door meeting with stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) inside the Government House, amid widespread rumours of his impending defection to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Meeting Behind Closed Doors
The meeting, which began earlier today, comes as speculation mounts that the governor is set to formally announce his departure from the PDP to join the APM. Bala Mohammed, who also serves as the chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, has previously attempted to defect to both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), but those moves did not materialize.
Supporters Celebrate on the Streets
Our correspondent reports that youths and some political appointees have taken to the streets of Bauchi, jubilating with cassava in their hands and wearing branded T-shirts and banners of the APM. Online, posters of Governor Mohammed have surfaced, featuring the senatorial campaign logo of the APM, further fueling defection rumours.
The governor's next move is being closely watched by political observers, as his defection could significantly alter the political landscape in Bauchi State.
