Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and key stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding a critical closed-door meeting inside the Government House, amid growing rumors of the governor’s impending defection to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Background of Defection Attempts
Bala Mohammed, who serves as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, has previously attempted to join both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), but those moves reportedly failed. Sources indicate that the governor is now set to announce his formal defection to the APM as early as today.
Public Demonstrations and Campaign Materials
Youths and some political appointees were seen on the streets of Bauchi, jubilating while carrying cassava and wearing branded T-shirts and banners bearing the APM logo. Online, posters of Governor Mohammed have emerged featuring the senatorial campaign logo of the APM, further fueling speculation of his imminent switch.
The meeting is being closely watched by political analysts, as a defection by Bala Mohammed could significantly alter the political landscape in Bauchi State and the broader PDP structure. The outcome of the meeting is expected to be announced later today.
