A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, led by Elder Patrick Didam Ambut, conducted ward and local government congresses on Thursday across all 255 wards and 23 local government areas ahead of the party's primaries.
The faction announced that its State Congress is scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026. The exercise was monitored in Giwa, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, and Soba Local Government Areas, where the process was peaceful and orderly without any disruptions.
Internal Leadership Disputes
The Kaduna ADC has experienced internal leadership disagreements in recent months between the Elder Ambut-led executive and an opposing faction. Despite these disputes, party stakeholders continue to recognize Elder Patrick Didam Ambut as the substantive state chairman. The faction has maintained disciplinary actions against members accused of misconduct and anti-party activities.
In October 2025, Ambut dismissed reports of his suspension, describing them as attempts to destabilize the party. Prominent stakeholders, including Senator Musa Bello and other party leaders, have rejected congresses not conducted under the Ambut-led executive, insisting on his leadership's legitimacy.
Strengthening Party Structure
The party has intensified efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections through coalition engagements and the absorption of members from other political parties. However, political observers note that lingering legal disputes, internal divisions, and recent defections involving notable opposition figures such as Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Mr. Peter Obi remain significant challenges that could affect the party’s prospects at both the state and national levels ahead of the 2027 elections.
