Former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Kennedy Peretei, has emerged as the pioneer chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the state. Peretei, speaking shortly after his emergence, declared that the country is at a political crossroads and that the NDC is gaining unprecedented national momentum. He claimed that over 10 million Nigerians registered as party members within 48 hours, describing this as a reflection of growing public frustration and a desire for political change ahead of the 2027 elections.
Former Speaker Urges Unity in APC
In a related development, the first female Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, has appealed to aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prioritize President Bola Tinubu's re-election over personal ambitions before the 2027 general elections. Akindele, who is vying for the Ondo South Senatorial District seat, warned that internal divisions and the unbridled pursuit of individual political goals could jeopardize the party's collective objective of securing a massive victory for the president in the state.
Target of One Million Votes
In a statement to newsmen, the former Speaker emphasized that while individual aspirations are flexible, President Tinubu's second-term bid must be treated as sacrosanct. She revealed that stakeholders in the state have set a target of securing at least one million votes for Tinubu and cautioned that any internal crisis could undermine this goal. Akindele stressed that political contests should strengthen, not fracture, the party, warning that a divided house cannot secure any meaningful mandate.
