Imole Campaign Council Backs Adeleke for Second Term

The recently inaugurated campaign team for the re-election bid of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed strong confidence that the achievements of the Accord Party candidate will secure his second term in the upcoming August 15 governorship election. The team, known as the Imole Campaign Council, made this declaration after its Media Committee officially opened the Imole Media Centre in Osogbo, a hub designed to disseminate information about Adeleke's accomplishments and his reloaded agenda for re-election.

Senator Lere Oyewumi, representing Osun West Senatorial District and serving as the Director-General of the Campaign Council, addressed journalists during the Media Centre opening ceremony. He stated that Adeleke's giant strides have endeared him to the people of Osun, with a majority of the populace assuring the governor of victory. Oyewumi highlighted that the governor has achieved significant milestones in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and digital economy within three and a half years in office.

Key Achievements Highlighted

According to Oyewumi, the top achievement of Adeleke's administration is the prioritization of the welfare of Osun residents, particularly workers' welfare and growth. Another major selling point is the extensive infrastructural projects spread across the state. Oyewumi emphasized that Adeleke has successfully corrected the mistakes of the immediate past administration led by Gboyega Oyetola by reducing the state's domestic debt from N148 billion in 2022 to N83.32 billion in the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) increased by 139 percent, and the external debt profile dropped from $91.78 million in 2022 to $75.14 million under the current administration.

Oyewumi remarked, "It is important to remind the electorate of the terrible mess which the immediate past administration, on which the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, served as Commissioner of Finance, left behind. We are happy to report that our government has reduced the domestic debt profile of the state from N148 billion in December 2022 to N83.32 billion by the first quarter of 2025 and external debt from $91.78 million in 2022 to $75.14 million." He further noted that the IGR rose from N24.47 billion in 2022 to N58.7 billion in 2025 following reforms introduced by the Adeleke administration.

Clearing Inherited Liabilities

The campaign council director-general also disclosed that the government had cleared 18 months out of the 30 months of half-salary arrears inherited from the previous administration and fully paid the 28-month contributory pension arrears owed to retirees. "We have cleared 18 months out of the 30 months of inherited half-salary liabilities from the past APC government. Our government has also cleared in full the 28-month contributory pension arrears owed to retirees," he stated.

Infrastructure and Education Reforms

On infrastructure, Oyewumi highlighted the construction of the first flyover in Ile-Ife and dual carriageways in Ilesa, Ila-Orangun, Ede, and Iwo, along with over 300 kilometers of urban and rural roads across the state. He described the Okefia and Lameco flyovers in Osogbo as symbols of modern urban planning. In education, he noted that Osun State moved from the 33rd position in the NECO ranking in 2022 to seventh position in both 2024 and 2025 due to reforms introduced by the administration.

Agricultural and Youth Initiatives

The government distributed 440,000 cocoa seedlings, 80,000 oil palm seedlings, and 60,000 cashew seedlings to farmers, while 31 tractors were deployed to cultivate over 5,100 acres of farmland under agricultural initiatives. On youth development, Oyewumi said the government recruited teachers and youths into the Imole Youth Corps and Osun Amotekun Corps to tackle unemployment. He also noted that the Adeleke administration introduced Osun State's first ICT policy and domesticated the Nigerian Startup Act to position the state as a technology and innovation hub.

Allegations and Warnings

The campaign council director-general accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of engaging in "negative politics" ahead of the August 15 governorship election. He alleged that a member of the Accord political family, Kolade Eluyera, was killed in Ikire by individuals linked to the APC and called on security agencies to ensure justice. "It is deeply disturbing and condemnable that a committed member of the Accord family, Kolade Eluyera, was gruesomely murdered by agents of the opposition APC, yet no decisive action has been taken," he alleged.

Oyewumi urged security agencies to remain neutral and professional throughout the election period, warning against selective enforcement of the law. "No political ambition is worth the blood of any citizen of Osun State," he said. He added that the Imole Campaign Council would focus on promoting the achievements of the Adeleke administration and mobilizing support for the governor's re-election bid under the "Imole 2.0" agenda ahead of the 2026 governorship election. The council also warned opposition parties against subverting the people's will through the poll, stating that any attempt to scuttle the process would be resisted.
