The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the resumption of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which will enter its third and final phase starting Monday, 11th May 2026.
Background of the Exercise
The second phase of the CVR was suspended on 17th April 2026 to allow the Commission to clean up the voter register after its publication for claims and objections by registrants. This pause was necessary to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the electoral roll.
Details of the Third Phase
In a statement released on 5th May 2026, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed that the third phase of the CVR will commence on Monday, 11th May 2026, and conclude on Friday, 10th July 2026. During this period, eligible citizens who have turned 18 years old, as well as those who missed earlier registration phases, are encouraged to register.
Additionally, registered voters who wish to transfer their registration to a new polling unit, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct their biodata can do so through the Commission's dedicated online portal at https://cvr.inecnigeria.org or by visiting INEC State and Local Government Area offices nationwide.
Display of Voter Register
Following the registration period, INEC will display the Register of Voters for claims and objections from Thursday, 23rd July to Wednesday, 29th July 2026. This statutory exercise allows citizens to scrutinize the register and assist the Commission in ensuring its accuracy, completeness, and credibility.
The statement further read: "The Commission reassures Nigerians that all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the smooth conduct of the exercise. We once again appeal to all eligible citizens to present themselves for registration and to play their part in strengthening the foundation of our electoral process."
INEC urges all eligible Nigerians to take advantage of this final phase to register and contribute to a credible electoral process.
